Your iPhone is assigned something called an IP address when it connects to a Wi-Fi network. Other devices that are connected to the same Wi-Fi network can use this unique identifier to transfer information to and from your iPhone. If this sounds confusing, it might help to think of an IP address as your iPhone’s home address. Just like physical mail, which is routed to your home via a unique address, digital information is routed to your iPhone using an IP address.

I have this program on my mac that streams my gps location over the private network. When on the road, my program needs an internet connection as well as the gps data, so I need to pair to my iphone to get internet. After doing this, however, my program can't determine my iphone's IP address so I can't get the location data. So, when you use a static IP address like many other cases at home, you left a trace about the IP in your emails or whatever you do online, in this case, yes, your cell phone IP can be traced and even, located exactly or approximately on the map if someone has advanced technologies and network algorithms. IP addresses are assignable, with leasing time. One can request a static IP from an ISP. If they have it, they will charge a fee. So yes, IP address is unique to every device on your local network. But you and your neighbor can have have the same IP address while chatting out side on the lawn. Each iPhone has a unique IP address. It is an identifier that allows transferring information to and from your device through a Wi-Fi connection. If this sounds confusing to you, think about it as your iPhone’s home mailing address. The IP address is just as a physical address, but it routes to your iPhone’s memory. Your iPhone is assigned something called an IP address when it connects to a Wi-Fi network. There may be certain situations when you’ll need to find your iPhone’s IP address. Here’s how to find your iPhone’s IP address:

  1. From the home screen, tap Settings.

  2. Tap Wi-Fi. The screen shown below appears.

  3. Tap the connected Wi-Fi network. The window shown below appears. Evernote salesforce.

  4. Your iPhone’s current IP address for the selected Wi-Fi network is displayed at the top of the window, as shown above. If your iPhone is connected to an IPv6-enabled network, your iPhone is also assigned one or more IPv6 IP addresses. Tap IP Address in the IPv6 Address section to view those IP addresses.

Congratulations! You have successfully found your iPhone’s IP address.

Tip: Your iPhone is probably assigned a dynamic IP address, which is a temporary address that is unique to your internal network. These addresses commonly start with 192.168 and 10.0. Since these addresses are dynamically and randomly assigned by your router every time a device connects to a network, you shouldn’t expect your iPhone to have the same IP address every time you connect to your Wi-Fi network.
